SCOTT EHRLICH, President
Scott and his family have been members of Beth Chaim for 17 years. Scott grew up in North Hollywood, and graduated from San Francisco State University, where he met wife Naomi. He currently works at Access Metals Trading, in San Ramon. Scott is a supporter of the Challenged Athletes Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and happens to be very passionate about Golden State Warriors basketball and University of Oregon football. Scott and Naomi have three sons, Jordan (26), Matthew (23), and Jacob (18).
ROBERTA GABRIEL, Vice President
Roberta and her husband Aaron have been members of Beth Chaim since 2011. Prior to her demanding job as managing director of her family, Roberta was a senior manager at a national banking firm. She has been the Membership Director on the board for the last four years and loves working with new and prospective families. Her two children, Joshua and Jacob, attend our Beit Midrash and also love helping mom as junior membership ambassadors.
DAVE MESSING, Vice President/Finance
Dave and Pam Messing have been members of Beth Chaim for over 10 years. Originally from New York, Dave is a graduate of Duke University and Columbia Business School, and is currently principal at his own commercial real estate company. Prior to serving as Vice President of the Board, Dave served for three years as Vice President, Finance. He and Pam have two sons: Jack has served as a Madrich in the Beit Midrash for the past four years, and is currently attending Syracuse University, and Josh is a 7th-grader in the Beit Midrash.
ELLEN ROSENBLUTH, Vice President/Parlimentarian
Ellen Rosenbluth and her husband Mark Garetz joined the Temple in 2008 because of their love of Torah study. They knew Beth Chaim would be their home because of the Temple’s warm, inclusive atmosphere and commitment to tikkun olam. Ellan was a practicing real estate/business attorney for many years before becoming a high school teacher at Richmond High, where she teaches law and coaches their mock trial team. She has taught in Beth Chaim's Beit Midrash and currently serves as Beth Chaim's Madrachim Coordinator. Ellen hopes to put her legal and administrative skills to good use in her Board position.
BURT FELDSTEIN, Treasurer
Burt has been a member of Beth Chaim since 2006. This is his fifth term as Treasurer of Beth Chaim. He previously held a similar position at Temple Beth Torah in Fremont, CA, for eight years.
Burt's degrees in finance and his work experience prepared him for the Corporate Treasurer position at Bell Microproducts, Inc., a publicly traded, national computer distribution corporation, and the role of Director of Treasury Operations for Supercom, Inc., a private national computer distribution firm.
BOBBY CARP, Secretary
Bobby and his wife Linda have been members of Beth Chaim since 2003. Raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Bobby was confirmed from Temple Israel, a reform congregation in Creve Coer. After receiving a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan, he moved to Sunnyvale to work for Apple Computer. Bobby feels that Beth Chaim has enriched his life, connecting past to present, and he appreciates the work Rabbi Dan and the community have done to make this happen. He and Linda have three children, Adam, Megan, and Julia - their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs being three of the most memorable days in his life.
FERN DAHLSTROM, Director, Education
Fern has been an active member of the warm and welcoming Beth Chaim community for 5 years and served on the Education Committee for 4 of those years. Her daughter Mira will be a madrichah this year and her son will be in the 5th grade class. Fern has been in training and development and leadership development for over 20 years and is excited to bring her experience with needs assessment, curriculum design, development and project management to her role on the board. She's a published children's book author and in her spare time loves adventures with her kids, the beach and volunteering with a local animal rescue and shelter.
DEBBIE ROOF, Director, Membership
Debbie & her husband Rich have been members of Beth Chaim since 2015. Debbie received her Master’s Degree in Psychoeducational Studies in 1980 at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she met her husband Rich. She retired in June 2017, after working for 37 years as a school psychologist. Before she retired, Debbie was a grant writer and a project coordinator in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District for an early intervention program. which helped over 1000 students per year with social skills, self-confidence, and school adjustment issues. Debbie is currently a board member for Time for Kids, Inc. and the Blackhawk Women’s Tennis Association. Debbie and Rich have two adult children, Katie (33) and Alan (31), who are both living in San Francisco. Debbie, Rich, Katie and Alan have all had Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. In addition to participating in our many Sisterhood events, Debbie is an avid tennis player, golfer, skier and gardener.
MARC FEDER, Director, Administration
Marc and his family have enjoyed a strong and rewarding relationship with BCC since moving to Danville in 2009. Anne and Marc have 2 children in the Beit Midrash and live in the Greenbrook neighborhood. Marc is a commercial mediator with a focus on business and employment disputes. Marc has served on the Board of Directors for several years, first as the Director of Chesed, and in his current role as Director of Administration. He deeply appreciates the competence, dedication, and warm smiles of the BCC staff.
JENIFER ZETLAN, Director, Interfaith
Jenifer Zetlan is a Beth Chaim member and serves on the Board as Interfaith Director. After 30 years in industry she authored The Incredible Power of Inspiration reflecting on Jewish values as a part of living an inspired life and continues to write for other health and wellness publications. With degrees in psychology and behavioral sciences she has taught in University settings and throughout many Fortune 500 companies. She and her husband Andy have been with Beth Chaim since 2013.
DAVID GOLDE, Director, Building
David and his wife Cheryl (Morah Chaya in our religious school) have been members of Beth Chaim since 2007. David attended UCLA both as an undergraduate and a graduate student in the School of Law. After receiving his law degree and being admitted to the California Bar, he was called to active duty in the U.S. Air Force and served for three years. He is now retired from private practice and acts as a private judge in family law cases. Cheryl and David reside in Danville with their 16-year-old son Joseph (Joey).
ARIE COHEN, Director, Fundraising
Arie is married to Kelley Cohen and the proud father of Kyla, Noah and Eli. Arie was born and raised in the Bay Area and is a graduate of UC Santa Cruz. During high school Arie spent several years in Israel with his family. This Aliyah helped him to form a deep love and appreciate for Israel and Judaism. He works and the Danville office of Alain Pinel Realtors and enjoys helping people find their dream home. When Arie is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, watching football and dabbling in a variety of different projects.
NAOMI EHRLICH, Director, Tikkun Olam
Naomi and Scott have been members of Beth Chaim for 17 years. A native of New Jersey, Naomi grew up in Marin County and graduated from San Francisco State University (where she met Scott). She worked as a social worker for many years, and currently volunteers for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She loves her position has Director, Tikkun Olam, and is passionate about helping those less fortunate. She and Scott have three sons, Jordan (26), Matthew (23), and Jacob (18), all of whom had their Bar Mitzvahs at Beth Chaim.
JEFF REITZES, Director-at-Large, Chesed
Jeff has been a member of Beth Chaim for 18 years. He has two kids, Jordan and Samantha, who have grown up at Beth Chaim. Jeff was a member of the first Beth Chaim adult B'nei Mitzvah class at age 42, has been a Chesed coordinator for years, and sings with the Beth Chaim Chazzanut Group. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jeff moved to the Bay Area in 1992 and got a job in the Telecom industry, successfully avoiding a career that had anything to do with what he studied in school.
DAVE ROSENBERG, Director-at-Large, Marketing/Communications
The Rosenbergs have been members of Beth Chaim since 2001. Dave previously served on the board in the same position for 6 years. He has been in marketing for over 30 years, currently as Chief Strategic Officer at GMR Marketing. Dave was born and raised in the Bay Area and resides in Danville with his wife Debbie, and two daughters, Melinda (24) and Brooke (22). He is a sports fanatic; watching, playing and coaching sports as well as an avid fan of old school hip hop music.
DEBORAH WECHSLER, Past President, and Officer, Religious Affairs
Deborah and her family have been members of Beth Chaim since 2001. Deborah served as President from 2011-2013, and previously held positions as Treasurer, editor of The Star, and Co-Chair of the Gala fundraiser. Originally from New Mexico, Deborah received her MS in geophysics, going on to work for Los Alamos National Laboratory and then Chevron for 26 years in a variety of scientific and managerial positions. She and her husband, Bruce Bilodeau, and their two daughters, lived and worked in Indonesia from 2003-2007, returning to Danville and Beth Chaim two months after our new building was opened.
PAM MESSING, Sisterhood President
Pam Messing and her husband Dave have been members of Beth Chaim since 2004. She grew up in Connecticut, and is a graduate of both Duke University and UConn School of Law. For the past 9 years, Pam has worked as both a volunteer and private tutor for children with dyslexia. Prior to serving as Sisterhood President, she served as Tikkun Olam Director for 3 years. Pam and Dave have two sons, Jack (20) and Josh (15), both still active in the Beit Midrash, as well as an adorable Labradoodle.
JEREMY SMITH, Brotherhood President
Jeremy, and his wife Mary Jo, have been members of Beth Chaim since 2010. Jeremy was born in New York City and raised in Southern California. Jeremy is an award winning copywriter and was recently named to Forbes and Circle Up’s Top Catalysts Dealmakers and Influencers in the Consumer Industry. Jeremy is principal at his firm, Launchpad, specializing in food industry business strategy and CEO services, branding design, strategy & implementation. When not pouring his energies in business, Jeremy enjoys writing, photography, and listening to his favorite music. Jeremy and Mary Jo make their home in San Ramon, and have a blended family of six kids, four grandchildren, and three dogs.
PAUL HED, Trustee
Paul has been a member of Beth Chaim since 1988, and currently represents the synagogue as an officer of Gan Shalom cemetery. He was born and brought up in Israel, where he was a member of the Underground and later served in the army during the war for independence. He and his wife Ora came to the United States in 1968, after which Paul worked as an optical manufacturing engineer for Lawrence Livermore Lab.
MARTIN FISHMAN, Trustee
Martin and his family have been members of Beth Chaim since 1997, after Martin returned from an overseas business assignment in Switzerland. He has served on the Beth Chaim Board since 2003, beginning as a co-leader on the building's second Capital Campaign. After this successful campaign, Martin became President in 2006-2008, Past President from 2008-2010, and a Trustee from 2010 until the present. He has been in the computer hardware and software business for almost 30 years, serving in many general management leadership positions. Martin has devoted his energy to Beth Chaim because he believes that Judaism represented in the Tri Valley area is hugely important for our community and our children, allowing our Jewish identity to be preserved forever.
JUDITH MARKOWITZ, Trustee
Judith and her family have been members of Beth Chaim for 23 years. A native of East Hampton, NY, where her parents were founders of the Jewish Center of the Hamptons, Judith began her life-long journey to create a meaningful Jewish life. A graduate of Ithaca College, with a dual concentration in business and music, she launched her extensive career in Human Resources holding senior positions at American Express, Lockheed, Jordan Marsh and Macy’s. Judith has held director positions at the Reutlinger Community, Contra Costa JCC and currently at the Jewish Federation of the East Bay. Judith previously served on the board for five years, seven years as high holy days chairperson, and on many committees. She was also the Director of our Beth Chaim Beit Midrash.
